You're right to be cautious. Many at-home vitamin D tests are not very accurate — they use lateral-flow immunoassays (the same format as a pharmacy COVID rapid test), give you a coloured line rather than a number, and can over-estimate by 10–20% because they can't separate vitamin D from a similar molecule called the C-3 epimer.
