Do I need a GP referral?

No. You order online and collect the sample yourself.

Is a finger-prick test as accurate as a blood draw?

When the dried blood spot is analysed by LC-MS/MS in an accredited lab, results correlate closely with venous serum (R² 0.97 in our validation). Rapid strip tests are a different, less precise technology.

How is this different from a 10-minute rapid test from a chemist?

A rapid cassette gives a colour band or range in about 10 minutes. This kit gives a measured 25(OH)D number from an accredited laboratory using LC-MS/MS, with results in 3–5 business days from lab receipt. See the comparison table above.

Is it covered by Medicare?

No. Medicare rebates vitamin D blood tests (MBS item 66833) only when specific clinical criteria are met. This kit is self-funded.

Do I need to fast?

No. Vitamin D status doesn't change meaningfully with a meal.

What is a normal vitamin D level in Australia?

Australian guidance generally treats 50 nmol/L or above (at the end of winter) as adequate. Your report shows where you sit.

How soon can I retest?

After a change in routine or sun exposure, about 3 months is a sensible interval.
